1. On-Device Processing Guarantee
Online Compass (newonlinecompass.com) was designed with a strict zero-knowledge architecture. All sensor telemetry—including orientation angles, alpha/beta/gamma values, compass headings, and accelerometer motions—is processed purely in client-side memory inside your web browser. No sensor reading is ever transmitted, logged, or stored on our servers.
2. Sensor Permissions (DeviceOrientation)
To display your direction in real time, the website requests access to the standard DeviceOrientationEvent API. On iOS devices, your browser requires you to tap an explicit authorization button. This permission grants your browser local read access to the device's magnetometer and gyroscope.
3. Geolocation & True North Mode
The default Magnetic North compass does not ask for or use your location. If you choose to enable the optional True North (GPS) mode, your browser requests one-time geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude).
These coordinates are utilized exclusively within your browser by the local World Magnetic Model (WMM 2025–2030) calculation algorithm to derive magnetic declination. Your coordinates are never sent across the network.
4. No Accounts, Cookies, or Third-Party Trackers
We do not require user accounts, user logins, or profiles. We do not use third-party analytics trackers, tracking beacons, or tracking pixels. The website functions entirely without cookies.
5. Offline Caching (Service Worker)
When you visit the site, standard Progressive Web App (PWA) cache files are stored on your local device to enable offline operation. This data remains completely local to your device's browser cache.
